[PROGRAM]

This event (re-)considers findings of the workshop RE(a)SON(d)ANCE(s): Philosophy, Performance and the Arts, held at the University of Lisbon in June 2024, continuing to examine the concept of resonance, which has become central in contemporary thought due to its flexibility in representing commonalities, interactions, and reverberations within relational ontologies. Despite its prominence, the heuristic potential of resonance, particularly for understanding and grounding the dynamic concept of “presencing absence,” remains underexplored.

This two-day online workshop aims to further this exploration by approaching the notion of resonance from various disciplinary perspectives. It seeks to foster ongoing interdisciplinary dialogues between philosophers, theorists, performers, artists, and practice-based art scholars. We especially encourage contributions from the Global South and welcome presentations that engage with resonance and/or absence, whether through scholarly inquiry, personal experience, or indigenous perspectives. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, philosophical and theoretical discussions on moods, affective spaces, and atmospheres; considerations of the body, movement, and spatialization; reflections on memory and spectres; intersections between art and activism; and other relevant areas in current research on visual and performative arts.

Organizers: Ricardo Mendoza-Canales (Praxis-CFUL, University of Lisbon) & Jörg Sternagel (Media Cultural Studies, University of Passau)
