Sanna Hirvonen

Research Group: LanCog
I’m a philosopher of food, language, and aesthetics. I am currently an associate member of LanCog at the University of Lisbon. I am also a member of Culinary Mind, a centre for the philosophy of food, based at the University of Milan. Some topics that interest me include the meaning of judgments of taste, objectivity vs. subjectivity of taste, semantics of perspective-dependent expressions, aesthetics of food, the nature of dishes and recipes, and the role of personal experience and testimony in aesthetic judgments.
Previously I have been a visiting junior research fellow at the University of Milan and a visiting postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, after which I worked outside the Academia for several years. I received my PhD in philosophy from University College London with a thesis entitled Predicates of Personal Taste and Perspective Dependence. I did my BA & MA in philosophy at the University of Helsinki and I have a Master’s in Cognitive Science and Language from LOGOS at the University of Barcelona. I’ve also been a visiting graduate student at UC Berkeley during my MA and PhD studies.
