Francisca Silva
I have been a member of LanCog since 2019, when I was a Philosophy MA student at the University of Lisbon. I was awarded for the completion of my MA with a scholarship from the CFUL to write a thesis on the philosophical and epistemic problems of impossible worlds semantics, including the problem of logical omniscience. Such a project was supervised by Ricardo Santos and later examined by Mark Jago. I have recently (2025) completed my PhD at the University of St Andrews where I was a member of the Arché Research Centre. I completed a project on hyperintensional semantics and metaphysics, including impossible worlds semantics, subject matter theory and truthmaker semantics. I was supervised by Francesco Berto and Greg Restall and later examined by Aaron Cotnoir and Hannes Leitgeb.
I am currently in a transitional period aiming to both deepen and extend the range of application of the models I have developed during my graduate studies. I am particularly interested in extending such models to account for pragmatic phenomena, to deepen connections between some strands in formal epistemology and bayesianism, to apply the models in cognitive and clinical psychology, and to deepen their connections to the literature on explanation (both causal and non-causal).
