Antropocenica 2
The 2nd meeting of the international Antropocenica series took place in Santarém / Tapajós river, Brazil, between August 22nd and September 2nd, 2023. We brought together local stakeholders (from indigenous, afro-descendant and riverside communities), academics and artists from six countries in Africa and Europe. In order to open the event to a wider public, the activities were accomplished in different locations, the idea was to bring the debates closer to communities. First an introductory course for the academic public was held in UFOPA, Santarém; later, debates with all the guests took place in the hospital/ship Abaré along Tapajós river and at the Kumaruara Village of Solimões; then we returned to UFOPA for open public debate sessions; and finished the event at Quilombo Murumurutuba, an afro- descendant community. The main goal was to promote intercultural dialogues, with the exchange of knowledge and experiences seeking new attitudes towards the problems we face today. Three axes structured the event and all discussions: Ancestries, Territories and Crossings. These themes were chosen to encourage the perception of the interweaving of multiple critical problems felt today, but present in the last few centuries and that result from colonization, slavery, poverty, predatory exploitation and the ruined environment.
