Induction, Laws of Nature and Necessity
Eduardo Castro (UBI and LanCog)
Abstract: What is the best explanation of our observed regularities, such as all observed ravens are black? In this paper, two potential competing explanations on laws of nature are discussed: timeless necessity and a new brand of necessity – Beebee’s temporal necessity. It will be defended that timeless necessity constitutes a better explanation of our observed regularities than does temporal necessity and, thus, inductive scepticism will be overcome.
