After offering a characterisation of the support relationship, we show how the familiar notion of a\u00a0<i>pro tanto<\/i>\u00a0reason (a notion that can also be defined in the standard counting for\/against terms) can be defined in support terms. Alongside\u00a0<i>pro tanto<\/i>\u00a0reasons, however, there are also, we suggest, what we propose to call\u00a0<i>contra tantum<\/i>\u00a0reasons: facts that support negative ought-propositions\u2014proposition<wbr \/>s e.g. of the form \u201cit is not the case that P ought\/ought not to F\u201d\u2014without also supporting any positive ought-proposition. The notion of a\u00a0<i>contra tantum<\/i>\u00a0reason, unlike that of a\u00a0<i>pro tanto<\/i>\u00a0reason, cannot, we argue, be defined in the standard counting for\/against terms.
