Marta Dias Barcelos is a PhD candidate in Moral and Political Philosophy at NOVA University of Lisbon, under supervision of Marta de Mendonça, PhD, and sponsored by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Since September, 2016, she is Visiting Researcher at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., having Henry S. Richardson, JD, MPP, PhD, as her mentor. Marta earned a BA (Philosophy) degree from the University of the Azores (2002), an MA (Bioethics) from the University of Lisbon (2009), and has a Specialization Course (Philosophy for Children), also from the University of the Azores (2014). Marta was Instructor at the University of the Azores during 2002 and 2014, where she taught several courses on Philosophy and served as coordinator of undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Portuguese Culture, and in European Studies and International Politics (2011-2014). She is also invited Instructor at the Episcopal Seminary of Angra since 2007, where she teaches different topics on Bioethics. She has served as a trainer for professionals in courses on applied ethics. Marta is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Hospital de Santo Espírito da Ilha Terceira since 2015, and is a former member of the Ethics Committee of the University of the Azores (2015-2017). She is also a member of the Center for Bioethical Studies since 2005, and a founder member of the RedÉtica Association in 2015.
